Arula Overalls – Durable Cotton Workwear & Casual Style

★★★★★4.8· verified reviews

Our Arula overalls are built for people who need workwear that moves with them—whether you’re in the garage, the garden, or grabbing coffee downtown. We start with heavyweight 12 oz cotton twill, pre-washed to eliminate shrinkage and break in soft from day one.

Every pair features adjustable metal hardware at the shoulders, reinforced bartack stitching at stress points, and deep front utility pockets sized for tools, phones, and notebooks. The bib pocket closes with a brass snap, and the side entry allows quick access without removing the straps. We designed these overalls to last years, not seasons.

What the numbers mean

We source our cotton twill from mills that specialize in workwear-grade textiles—tight weave, consistent weight, and colorfast dye that holds up under repeated washing. The 12 oz weight strikes a balance: substantial enough to resist abrasion and tears, light enough to wear comfortably in warm weather.

Every seam is double-stitched and flat-felled where fabric overlaps, so there are no raw edges to fray. Bartack reinforcement sits at the top of each pocket, the base of the bib, and both ends of the back yoke. We pre-wash every bolt before cutting, which means your overalls arrive ready to wear and won’t surprise you with unexpected shrinkage after the first laundry cycle.

Arula overalls follow a unisex fit with adjustable straps that accommodate a wide range of torso lengths. We offer sizes XS through 3XL, each corresponding to standard chest and waist measurements listed in our size chart. The straps adjust up to four inches, so you can dial in the drop length that works for your frame.

Inseam options

Our standard inseam is hemmed to 30 inches. If you need a longer leg, choose the unhemmed option (34″ raw inseam) and hem to your preferred length at home or with a tailor. The side zipper sits at hip level, making it easy to step in and out without unbuckling both straps—a feature that’s especially helpful when you’re wearing boots or work shoes.

We built the pocket array around real use cases: the two front utility pockets are cut deep enough to carry a folding ruler, a multi-tool, or a paperback without items shifting or falling out when you sit. The bib pocket measures seven inches wide and closes with a single brass snap—ideal for a phone, notebook, or keys.

Two back patch pockets round out the storage, each reinforced at the top edge. The right-side back pocket includes a small interior divider to keep pens or markers from sliding around. No pocket is purely decorative—every stitch serves a function, and every opening is bound to prevent fraying over time.

Care & maintenance

Care & maintenance

Machine wash cold or warm with like colors. Tumble dry on low heat, or line dry to extend fabric life and preserve the finish of the brass hardware. We recommend turning the overalls inside out before washing to reduce friction on the outer surface and keep the twill looking sharp.

If you notice loose threads at a pocket edge or strap attachment, a quick bartack stitch from any tailor—or a home sewing machine—will reinforce the spot and prevent further wear. The cotton twill softens with every wash, so expect the hand feel to improve over the first few months of regular use. Avoid bleach, which can weaken the fibers and fade the dye unevenly.

Finally, overalls that fit
I’ve tried three other brands and none of them had adjustable straps that actually worked for my height. These fit perfectly out of the box, and the side zipper makes bathroom breaks so much easier. The pockets are deep enough that my phone doesn’t fall out when I bend over.

Soft right away
Most work pants take weeks to break in, but these were comfortable from day one. The pre-washed cotton is soft without being flimsy. I’ve washed them four times now and they still look new—no fading, no loose threads.

Great for gardening
I bought these for weekend yard work and they’ve become my go-to. The knees are reinforced so I can kneel on gravel without worrying, and the bib pocket holds my gloves and pruning shears. They wash clean every time, even after muddy projects.

Solid quality, wish they had more colors
The construction is top-notch—double stitching everywhere, heavy-duty zippers, and pockets that don’t sag. I’d love to see a gray or tan option in the future, but the olive color I ordered works for everything I do.

Best workwear investment I’ve made
I’m a carpenter and I put these through the wringer—climbing ladders, kneeling on concrete, carrying tools in every pocket. After six months of daily wear, they’re still holding strong. The brass hardware hasn’t tarnished and the fabric hasn’t thinned. Worth every penny.

Comfortable all day
I wear these in my workshop and they don’t bind or chafe like other overalls I’ve tried. The straps stay put without digging into my shoulders, and the waist has enough room to move. I’ve recommended them to three friends already.

Questions about Arula overalls

No significant shrinkage occurs because we pre-wash all cotton twill before cutting and sewing. You may notice up to one percent relaxation in length after the first wash, but the fabric is stabilized during production to prevent the dramatic shrinkage common in raw denim or untreated cotton.

Yes. If you order the unhemmed option, the raw inseam measures 34 inches and can be trimmed to any length. Use a sewing machine with heavy-duty thread, or take them to a tailor for a professional hem. The twill cuts cleanly and doesn’t require serging if you fold and double-stitch the edge.

They follow a unisex fit with adjustable shoulder straps that accommodate different torso lengths and body shapes. We size by chest and waist measurements rather than by traditional men’s or women’s labels, so consult our size chart and measure your natural waist and fullest part of your chest for the best match.

The standard Arula overalls are single-layer 12 oz cotton twill, suitable for three-season wear. The flannel-lined version adds a brushed cotton flannel interior for insulation in cold weather, but it shares the same outer fabric, pocket layout, and hardware. If you work outdoors in winter, the lined option provides extra warmth without bulk.

Pre-treat stains with a degreasing dish soap or a dedicated stain remover before washing. Apply the product directly to the stain, let it sit for ten minutes, then wash in warm water. For stubborn spots, a second treatment or a soak in warm water with laundry detergent usually lifts the residue. Avoid hot water on set-in stains, as heat can bond the oil to the fibers.

No padding is added, but the straps are cut wide—one and a half inches—to distribute weight evenly and prevent digging. The metal hardware is smooth and rounded to avoid sharp edges. If you carry heavy tools in the pockets all day, some customers add aftermarket strap pads, though most find the width sufficient for comfort.

Yes. We offer free size exchanges within 30 days of delivery, as long as the overalls are unworn and unwashed with tags attached. Contact our support team to initiate an exchange, and we’ll send a prepaid return label. Once we receive the original pair, we’ll ship the new size within two business days.
