★★★★★4.8· verified reviews

We designed these boots for people who’ve spent years fighting zippers that won’t close. Arula wide calf boots feature a generous 16–18 inch calf circumference and a gusseted shaft that flexes with your natural shape, no squeezing required.

Every pair starts with full-grain leather milled in Portugal and a cushioned footbed that supports you through long days on your feet. The interior is lined with breathable cotton twill, and an elastic gore panel lets the boot hug your calf without constriction. Whether you wear them over jeans or tucked under straight-leg trousers, these boots stay comfortable from morning commute to evening errands.

What the numbers mean

We source hides from family-run tanneries outside Porto that use vegetable tanning — a slower process that leaves the leather supple, strong, and able to age beautifully. Each boot is cut by hand, then stitched with a Goodyear welt so you can resole them at any cobbler when the treads wear down.

The elastic gore panel is inset along the medial side of the shaft, hidden under a leather overlay that keeps the silhouette clean. This panel stretches up to two inches, accommodating natural calf taper without visible hardware. We finish every seam with double needle stitching and reinforce stress points at the ankle and top line with bar tacks.

Order your usual US shoe size — these boots run true to length. If you typically wear a half size, we recommend sizing up for thicker socks or a roomier toe box.

Calf measurements

The shaft measures 14 inches tall from the sole to the top edge, with a 16-inch circumference at the narrowest point (just below the knee). The elastic gore expands that to 18 inches comfortably. If your calf measures over 18 inches, reach out to our fit team — we can customize the shaft width at no extra charge.

Wipe the boots with a damp cloth after each wear to remove dirt and salt. Every 4–6 weeks, apply a thin coat of neutral leather cream with a horsehair brush, then buff to restore the natural oils.

Avoid soaking the boots in water — if they get drenched, stuff the shafts with newspaper and let them air-dry away from direct heat. Never put leather boots on a radiator or under a blow dryer; the rapid temperature change can crack the grain.

What’s included with your order

Each pair ships in a canvas drawstring bag you can reuse for travel storage. Inside the box you’ll find a small bottle of neutral leather cream (enough for two applications), a horsehair buffing brush, and a printed care card with illustrated instructions.

We also include a spare set of waxed cotton laces in case the originals fray, plus a microfiber polishing cloth. If you ever need additional care supplies, they’re available individually on our footwear accessories page.

Finally boots that zip all the way up
I’ve tried every brand that claims ‘wide calf’ and they all stopped three inches short. These went up without a fight. The leather is thick but not stiff, and the footbed has real arch support. I wore them straight out of the box for a full day and had zero blisters.

Worth every penny for the fit alone
I have 17-inch calves and most boots leave a gap at the top or cut off circulation halfway up. The elastic panel on these is genius — it stretches where I need it but doesn’t look baggy. The leather smells amazing and the sole feels sturdy on wet pavement.

Beautiful construction, comfortable immediately
I was nervous about the price but the quality is obvious the second you pick them up. The stitching is perfect, the lining is soft, and they didn’t need any break-in time. I get compliments every time I wear them.

Great boots, just size up if between sizes
I’m usually an 8.5 and ordered a 9 based on the size guide. They fit perfectly in the calf and the toe box is roomy enough for thicker socks. The only reason I didn’t give five stars is I wish the shaft came in a 15-inch option for petite heights.

Resoleable construction is a game changer
I’ve already worn these for six months and the leather just keeps getting softer. Knowing I can take them to a cobbler and get the soles replaced means I’ll have them for years. Best boot investment I’ve made.

Exactly what I needed for professional wear
I’m on my feet all day in an office and needed something that looked polished but didn’t hurt after an hour. These check every box. The heel height is perfect for skirts or trousers, and the calf width finally fits over my muscular calves without looking baggy.

// questions

Common questions about Arula wide calf boots

The shaft has a 16-inch circumference at the narrowest point, and the elastic gore panel stretches it to 18 inches comfortably. If your calf measures beyond 18 inches, contact our fit team — we offer custom shaft widths at no additional cost for measurements up to 20 inches.

The full-grain leather has natural water resistance and will handle light rain without issue. For heavy weather or snow, we recommend our weatherproof treated-leather version, which has a sealed seam construction and a rubber rand at the sole. You can also apply a waterproofing spray to the standard boots for extra protection.

Measure your calf at its widest point with a soft tape measure pulled snug but not tight. If that measurement falls between 15 and 18 inches, these boots will fit comfortably. For calves under 15 inches, our standard-width boots may be a better match. For measurements over 18 inches, reach out for a custom fit consultation.

Most customers report the boots feel comfortable within 3–5 wears as the leather molds to your foot shape. The memory-foam footbed doesn’t need breaking in, and the elastic gore flexes from day one. Wear them around the house for short sessions at first to speed up the softening process.

Yes — the Goodyear welt construction means any cobbler can replace the sole without damaging the leather upper. When the rubber toplift wears down, a cobbler can swap it for under thirty dollars. With proper care and occasional resoling, one pair can last ten years or more.

The wide calf boot has a 14-inch shaft height and a 16–18 inch calf circumference. Our ankle boot has an 8-inch shaft and a slightly narrower 15–16 inch calf width. Both use the same full-grain leather and cushioned footbed, so the choice comes down to how much coverage you want.

We offer free exchanges within 30 days of delivery, and you can return unworn pairs for a full refund. If you’ve worn them briefly indoors and the fit isn’t working, contact our team — we’ll cover return shipping and help you find the right size or style at no extra charge.
