Arula Sandals – Handcrafted Comfort for Every Step
Our Arula sandals combine full-grain leather uppers with cork-latex footbeds that mold to your unique arch over time. We hand-stitch every strap and finish each sole with natural rubber for traction on wet or dry surfaces.
Designed for travelers, weekend explorers, and anyone who refuses to choose between style and support, these sandals feature adjustable buckles at the ankle and instep so you dial in the perfect fit. The neutral colorways work with linen shorts, denim, or a summer dress—versatile enough to take you from farmers’ market to patio dinner without a second thought.

What the numbers mean
We purchase hides exclusively from tanneries that follow traditional vegetable-tanning methods—no heavy metals, no synthetic accelerants. The process takes six to eight weeks, during which bark extracts slowly penetrate the hide and create a supple, breathable material that ages beautifully.
Vegetable-tanned leather starts stiff but softens with each wear, developing a patina unique to your stride. Our partner tannery in Portugal holds both LWG Gold certification and REACH compliance, ensuring transparency from raw hide to finished strap. When you invest in quality footwear, you’re choosing materials that last a decade or more with proper care.
The cork-latex blend under your foot contains millions of microscopic air pockets that compress and expand as you walk. During the first two weeks, the footbed will feel firm—this is intentional. As the cork compresses beneath your heel and forefoot, it creates a custom impression that mirrors your arch height and gait pattern.
What to expect in the first month
Days 1–7: snug fit across the instep; mild pressure at the heel cup. Days 8–14: noticeable softening where your weight concentrates. Weeks 3–4: the sandal feels like it was molded for you. We recommend wearing them for two-hour sessions initially, gradually increasing to full-day wear by week three. The metatarsal ridge will feel pronounced at first; this is the component that prevents your toes from gripping and reduces forefoot fatigue on long walks.
Arula sandals run true to US women’s whole sizes. If you’re between sizes, we suggest sizing up—the adjustable buckles allow you to tighten the fit, but you cannot lengthen a sandal that’s too short.
Our standard width accommodates a B to D foot; if you typically need narrow or wide-width shoes, email our fit specialists before ordering. The strap placement works for low to medium arches; very high arches may find the instep strap sits too low. We offer a 60-day return window specifically so you can test the sandals on short neighborhood walks before committing.

Care instructions and lifespan
Wipe the leather with a damp cloth after each wear to remove dust and salt. Every four to six weeks, apply a thin layer of natural leather conditioner—we include a sample tin with every order. Avoid soaking the footbed; cork absorbs water and can delaminate if saturated repeatedly.
Store sandals in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. The natural rubber sole will harden in freezing temperatures, so bring them indoors during winter if you live in a cold climate. With seasonal conditioning and occasional resole service, Arula sandals routinely last five to seven years of daily summer wear.

Common questions about Arula sandals
Most wearers report a comfortable fit by the end of week three. The cork footbed needs consistent pressure to compress and mold to your unique arch shape, so we recommend wearing the sandals for two to three hours daily during the first two weeks, then gradually increasing to full-day wear. If you experience hot spots or pinching after day five, contact our fit team—we can suggest strap adjustments or confirm whether you need a different size.
Light rain and occasional splashes are fine, but we do not recommend submerging the cork footbed. Cork absorbs moisture and can delaminate if it stays wet for extended periods. If your sandals do get soaked, stuff them with newspaper and let them air-dry away from direct heat. The natural rubber sole provides excellent wet-surface traction, so you can confidently walk on dewy grass or slick tile.
We manufacture whole sizes only. If you typically wear a half size, round up and use the adjustable buckles to fine-tune the fit. The instep and ankle straps each have five buckle holes, giving you about a half-inch of total adjustment range. This system works for most foot shapes; if you have an unusually narrow or wide foot, email us before ordering so we can recommend the best approach.
We offer a 60-day trial period. Wear the sandals indoors or on short walks during the first two weeks; if they don’t feel right, return them for a full refund or exchange. We only ask that you avoid wearing them on rough outdoor surfaces until you’re sure of the fit, since excessive sole scuffing may limit resale eligibility. Prepaid return labels are available through your order confirmation email.
Inspect the tread pattern every few months. When the deepest grooves are worn flush with the surrounding rubber, it is time for a resole. We offer factory resoling for forty-five dollars, which includes a new rubber outsole and a fresh coat of edge dressing on the leather. Turnaround is typically seven to ten business days. Most customers need their first resole after three to four years of regular summer wear.
Our standard width fits B to D foot widths comfortably. If you wear EE or wider shoes, the straps may feel tight even at the loosest buckle setting. We recommend emailing our fit specialists with a photo of your foot from above; they can assess whether the strap placement will work for your proportions or suggest a different model from our collection that accommodates wider forefeet.
Patience yields the best results, but you can gently flex the footbed with your hands before the first wear to begin the cork compression. Some customers lightly dampen the footbed surface with a spray bottle, wear the sandals for an hour, then let them dry overnight—repeat this twice during week one. Avoid soaking the entire sandal or using heat to soften the cork, as both methods risk damaging the adhesive bond between layers.
